Wholeheartedly Devoted to God's Will
Psalm 119:1-8
The opening words of Psalm 119 begin with "Blessed are they whose ways are blameless." It sets the tone of the entire poem. The KJV uses the words, "Blessed are the undefiled." The NLT uses "Happy are the people of integrity." Whatever the word or phrase that is being used, those who follow the principles of His Word set forth will "seek him with all their heart." They are the people who are perfect and upright in their intent and commitment. They “walk” (NIV & KJV), “follow” (NLT) after God’s law, God’s ways.
Our wholehearted devotion to the will of God is the Christian's secret of a happy life. We chose willfully to "do nothing wrong," Verse 3, "do no iniquity" (KJV) and intentionally chose to "walk in His ways." The NLT reads, "They do not compromise with evil." In the power of the Holy Spirit we strive to be fully obedient to His way, truth and life.
Looking at our commitment in a negative viewpoint we may say, "I can't, I must not compromise" or "It is impossible." When it becomes a rule, a standard that we must follow it can easily become negative. Remember, any lifestyle that is contrary the way of God will not bring a lasting happiness. But in the positive spirit of Lord we must say, "I choose not to compromise, I choose to be wholly devoted, I choose to be of integrity before the Lord." When it comes from the heart it will be positive in spirit. Again, in the NLT Verse 1 reads, "Happy are people of integrity."
All this comes from obeying God's Word. The more we are into His Word the less that the things of this world should become the focal point of our lives. Healthy principles will become our way of life. Inner peace will grow in us. Wholeheartedly Devoted to God's Will is the way to go!
