Outreach Ministries

As part of the mission of WHFC, we want to reach out in love to those who are beloved by God. Our focus is on those who are hurting and/or unaware of His love for them.

Have you heard of The Well? The Well is a network of people actively loving people outside of our walls and inside of their walls. It encompasses a number of the outreach ministries at WHFC such as Betty's Boutique, the Men and Women's shelter outreaches, and the Neighborhood Networks. The goal of The Well is love.

Hands Holding a Globe

Betty's Boutique

Betty's Boutique is a friendly, confidential store where individuals can come to "shop" for free. The store consists of gently used/new clothes, toys, toiletries, house wares and furniture. Special orders are also welcome.

On August 21, 2010 from 10:00 am- 4:30 pm Betty's Boutique will be having a Back to School Clothing event. Can you help us get the word out to those who might need clothes but not have the money to buy them? This Back To School Clothing Event Brochure gives the details (copies of the brochure can be obtained by calling the church office).

This was held at the Painesville fairgrounds where other churches and service providers were handing out free food, haircuts, clothes etc...

Men's Shelter Outreach

Every Monday evening there is an opportunity to show caring and love to men less fortunate than most. Volunteers meet at the church at 5:30pm and load clothing, food, and snacks then head downtown to spread the love and offer the hope Christ has shown us. The "spot" is located at 17th and Payne in Cleveland and is a shelter that offers temporary housing to over 100 men with a disability or recently released from prison. Be assured, you will return a different person than the one that left.

Visitation

Pastor Tom welcomes those who have a heart for ministering to the sick and hurting to join him in the Visitation Ministry. There are many who are home bound or struggling with prolonged sicknesses that long for contact with someone to encourage and pray with them. Pastor Tom is desirous of having a team of people who will join him in visiting those in need.

Nursing Home Ministry

As Matthew 25 states, "... I was sick and you looked after me ...I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me...".

The Nursing Home Ministry puts these words into action by caring for those who are confined to a nursing home. Pastor Tom Fowler, Pastor Jim Belt and Pastor Walt with the Singles all have ministries to those in area nursing homes. If you are interested in beginning a ministry of your own in this area or want to join one already in progress, the opportunities are plentiful. Some current opportunities are:

Bereavement Ministry

Serving Others

The Bereavement Ministry provides a light lunch for family and friends of loved ones who have their funeral service at WHFC. This is a rewarding ministry as we express love to our brothers and sisters in Christ and their extended families by serving them in their time of need. The Bereavement Ministry strives to be the hands of Jesus reaching out in love.

"Give away your life, you'll find life given back, but not merely given back -- given back with bonus and blessings. Giving not getting is the way. Generosity begets generosity." Message Luke 6:38

Mercy Ministry

As the Body of Christ, we are called to care for one another in practical, as well as spiritual ways. Please consider allowing God to use you to fulfill His command. Tell us what you'd like to do - remember, our God works in us to "will and to do of His good pleasure," - we'll let Him open doors to use our gifts. If you are willing to be part of a caring group of people demonstrating Christ's love in practical ways then print or pick up the Mercy Ministry brochure and fill it out.

Grieving Shawl Ministry

Knitting Needles and Yarn

Care and the love of knitting (and crochet) have been combined into a prayerful ministry that reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace. Many blessings are knitted into every shawl. The knitter begins each shawl with prayers for the recipient. Prayers are continued throughout the creation of the shawl. When the shawl is completed, it is offered a final prayer before being sent along its way. Besides knit and crochet; the shawls can be woven, sewn, quilted or machine knitted. This ministry is an extension of the Mercy Ministry.

“The Lord is close to the broken hearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”  Psalm 34:18
