A Prayer – Adoration
Adoration is a prayer of praise and glory for who God is. It’s typically the first type of prayer in session, such as “Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name” in The Lord’s Prayer. These can be Scriptures turned to prayers, or they can be your own words. Use your imagination and envision greeting the King in the great halls of heaven. What would you say?
When you take time to pray this week, try to pray a prayer of adoration before any other types of prayers. Don’t rush, but reflect on key words and attributes of God. Here are some examples:
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well.Psalm 139:14
Lord waits to be gracious to me;Isaiah 30:18
therefore he will rise up to show mercy to me.
For the Lord is a God of justice;
blessed are all those who wait for him.
A Virtue – Gratitude
Brene Brown said, “I don’t have to chase extraordinary moments to find happiness – it’s right in front of me if I’m paying attention and practicing gratitude.” Gratitude is an attitude! Perhaps there is a way for you to engage with gratitude on a regular basis this week…
- light a candle at dinnertime and sharing what you are grateful for.
- make a list of thanksgivings place them in on the fridge of bathroom mirror.
- if you’re grateful for someone else, make a plan to share that with them.
For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, provided it is received with thanksgiving1 Timothy 4:4
An Action – Pause
Stop and smell the roses! Schedule an appointment with God to pause from life and enjoy Him (seriously…put it in your calendar). Take a walk, step outside, walk the dog in the park, listen to worship music. Try breathing deeply…it really helps!
“Be still, and know that I am God!Psalm 46:10
I am exalted among the nations,
I am exalted in the earth.”
Parents, here are some ways you can help your kids enjoy the beauty of God’s creation.
- Read Genesis 1 & 2 in a children’s bible.
- Make a family scavenger hunt! Have each family pick what they think you will see in God’s creation.
- Craft: Make a picture of your favorite plant or flower.
